The extraordinary 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas
of Red' poppy installation which flooded the moat of the Tower of London in 2014 really got
me thinking. I'd made World War commemorative thrupenny bit coin
cufflinks before, but I realised I should be donating the profits from their sale to a relevant good cause.
So in time for Armistice Day I created a small collection of limited edition WW2 remembrance
thrupenny bit cufflinks. There were just three pairs which featured coins minted in 1939 and
1945, marking the start & end of the war. The remaining six pairs
featured matching coins minted in 1945. 80% of their price went directly to the Royal British
Legion's Poppy Appeal fund.
The cufflinks proved gratifyingly popular and they all sold in a flash. It was such a ridiculously tiny thing for me to do to mark an occasion of such massive significance, but it felt good to do it.
